How to keep up to date with this Google Update
Google has recently made some changes to its mobile search results which are currently being rolled out to all users of the search engine.
You may have noticed your search results page looked a little different. The aim of this design change was so that customers could get a better understanding of the website that the information is coming from. They do this by putting the websites branding front and centre.
If you have a look at your Google Chrome search engine now you will notice 3 changes. The changes are small but can be a good opportunity to stand out amongst the search engine results!
Here is an example of the changes you will see outlined in red:
Each result now shows a Favicon and the full URL by the side of it, with the title below and the first picture on your homepage displayed next to it. (Although the picture display is random, some are shown, and some results do not have this feature.) This was done to help guide customers through the information available on the web.
Another change that Google have made is the Ad label. Advertisements still use the same format however what was once shown as an icon now has a black ‘Ad’ in its place. They have also been spaced out a little better for easier viewing.
In order to take advantage of these changes here are a few steps that you can take:
- Google your industry and your town (for example: Web Design Leeds) to see what the search engine brings up.
- Make sure your website has an up to date Favicon as this can draw a customer’s eye to your search result
- Check the first image on your homepage (not your header) and make sure this is something you want to appear on in the search engine results.
This is a minor job that shouldn’t take more than 10 minutes. Make sure you get as much advantage as you can, check on these small changes and make the most of your opportunities today.
